its been a week since i started my attachment. not what i would say eventful but there was a few interesting episodes. first of all, tan tock seng radiology department really has so much good looking male radiographers. some of them kept long hair, coloured hair, colourful shirts that were tucked out etc. even the radiologists are young, tall and decent looking. it was so funny seeing my female classmates gushing over them. they were even taking photos with them instead of taking x-rays! they were not drop dead gorgeous. but in that kind of setting, anyone above average is already a treat. just like how i would get excited over female radiographers or nurses that werent exactly a knockout but still somewhat attractive ;) . sadly these chances are few and limited.
there was this quite stylish radiographer from hongkong who was hitting on melissa. he would only ask melissa to accompany him to the tentage area to do x-rays and always finding opportunties to talk to her. he even ask her to sing any song in cantonese today so that he can hear her voice...haha. mel got teased by us (me in particular) non-stop for that ;) .
there are some really bad cases in a&e that i wished i can share. but i dun think it would be very professional to reveal such information on my blog. not to mention i might incur the wrath of my patient care lecturer :) .
Stage A (normal) competencies are so few in the a&e and in-patient departments. i have only completed 3 competencies after 6 days. the radiographers were generally pretty lenient. which is not really a good thing. i hate students who just want to do competencies even before they are competent. they don't know the procedure and technique well enough and after the radiographer helped them, they still have the cheek to ask for competency! and the radiographer will give it to them. i firmly believe that tons of practice is definately gonna be more beneficient than the signed compentencies. and that is the problem with the system. it actually encourages students to finish the competencies at the expense of more practice. i heard they used to have a system whereby there is no competencies to do. u have to collect cases. they have to do a number of cases unassisted before passing the requirement for that one body part. that should be the way to assess a student. sighs...i have gone on a long nagging session again. pardon me :) .
shall update over the weekend should there be anything interesting that pops up.
